In honor of a mentor
July 19, 2006 by blogs-from-jupiter
Tomorrow’s the birthday of a great mentor. I owe him big time. It was him who gave me one of the big breaks in my professional life as a communicator/ media practitioner. My stint at the National Centennial Commission, though short lived, opened the flood gates to career opportunities. His name in my resume was my passport to success. I would often look back to my days at the Centennial as the foundation, the strong foundation, to this fruitful and wonderful career in public relations. Almost everything I learned (in the communications field), I learned in the Centennial.
He was more than a mentor, he was father to the hundreds he had mentored. And I am humbled to belong to a league of professional media practitioners who passed through the scrutinous yet gentle eyes of this great man. An institution in his own right, this man brings out the best in his staff. He really knows how to develop people.
But more than learning the essentials as well as the intricacies of the trade, this man has always reminded me of how good and great God is. His life– family, work and personal– is a testimony of God’s great love to all of us, that God really cares, that God never fails us. I was witness to what this man and his family went through. Despite the challenges, they never faltered and lost faith.
I witnessed how God blessed his family, and how God used this man in changing the lives of many people. He is truly an inspiration.
Happy Birthday JesMa! Happy Birthday Jesus Sadang Matubis Jr!
