Searching for the right person for the job II
June 20, 2006 by blogs-from-jupiter
I am so excited with the upcoming outcome of our search for our department’s Business Support and Communications Specialist. I have already shortlisted four candidates for interview with our HR Manager this Thursday and their final interview next week with my boss, the PR Manager. Any of the four shortlisted will be fine with me. If its one of the two guys, better. I prefer a guy as PR work is also physically demanding… a lot of running, going up and down the stairs, and driving from one office location to another, not only within our compound, but with our offices outside Manila, and in the four corners of the globe.
My final four reminds me of one those reality TV star searchs. From the 20 plus that submitted their resumes and applications, I only had who 10 took the exams. After reading through the examination results, I interviewed around eight. Then my final four.
The final four is one competitive group: all talented communicators in both written and spoken word, good grades, all scholars, young and very promising. The two girls are UP communication graduates (one LB and one D) and both graduated cum laude. More or less they have an inkling of our business as both have parents working in the maritime transport industry. The other guy is currently working for a cable channel. He graduated in St Louis in Baguio and was an editor of their campus paper. He knows media and that gives him an upper hand for the position. The other guy works for a call center and is a graduate of PLM. Currently, he has a number of active applications. He’s really good and I am not surprised that he has a lot of job opportunities open for him.
I’ve recommended three of the final four to apply in our Company’s management trainee program as they belong to the top 10 percent of their class. The other one is already old for the program.
After this, I’ll work on the internal sourcing of a replacement for our Events and IR Support Coordinator.
